On October 7, 2026, OpenAI announced that it is bringing GPT-6 to ChatGPT chats, along with a new feature called Intelligent UI. Paid plans get it starting the same day, and the free plan from October 8, in a gradual rollout worldwide.
The announcement
Intelligent UI displays ChatGPT's answers not only as text but as a combination of diagrams, charts, buttons, forms and other elements. GPT-6 chooses which elements to use and how to combine them based on the question. OpenAI says this will make answers to everyday questions more visual and complex topics easier to understand.
Examples highlighted in news reports include:
- Recipes whose quantities adjust to the number of servings
- Calculators for seeing how your savings could grow, and tools for splitting a meal bill
- Maps, checklists and multiple-choice questions
- Simple games you can play within the conversation
Diagrams and buttons appear progressively, without waiting for the whole answer to finish generating. OpenAI says responses are faster because GPT-6 can start answering while it is still thinking or using tools.
Models and rollout by plan
The model used in chats depends on your plan.
- Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise: GPT-6 Sol, starting October 7
- Free and Go: GPT-6 Luna, starting October 8
On Enterprise, availability depends on administrator settings. In addition, the Pro plan's reasoning levels that run on the higher-end GPT-6 Astra model do not support Intelligent UI. This change applies to chats, and the models used in ChatGPT Work and Codex are not changing.
Speed and supported platforms
According to OpenAI, at the Instant reasoning level, which is built for quick answers, GPT-6 starts answering questions that require a web search 44% sooner on average than GPT-5.6.
Intelligent UI is available on the web and in the latest versions of the apps, at reasoning levels from Instant through Extra High. Older versions of the macOS and Windows desktop apps do not support it. On the web, you can turn off the visual display in settings, though OpenAI says some elements may still appear.
CoAI's take
Some tasks that used to require a separate tool, like trying numbers on a calculator website or looking something up in a maps app, can now be done entirely within a ChatGPT conversation. Since it is also available on the free plan, the change will reach a lot of people. That said, the results of tools like calculators are generated by AI. If you use them for decisions involving money or health, be sure to check the numbers yourself.
