On October 16, 2026, OpenAI began rolling out Slides, a new feature for creating presentation decks inside ChatGPT. Users can build a deck from a conversation or their own files, edit it with their team right there, and even present it from ChatGPT. The feature was announced in ChatGPT's release notes and is being rolled out gradually to eligible users. On the same day, OpenAI also announced an update to GPT-6 Pro, its top-tier AI model.
What Slides can do
According to OpenAI's release notes, the main features of Slides are as follows.
- Creating decks: build a deck from a conversation, files or an outline (a table of contents or key points). You can also provide a sample deck to set the look and feel of the design
- Direct editing: edit text, images, shapes and charts yourself, or have ChatGPT make the changes. You can also generate images or add your own
- Co-editing: several people can edit at the same time and leave shared comments
- Presenting: present directly from the ChatGPT screen
- Exporting: on the web, export to PowerPoint, PDF and Google Slides formats. In the desktop app, open decks in your installed copy of PowerPoint or Keynote
Decks are created inside a "Space," a place in ChatGPT for bringing a team's work together. OpenAI says you can get started by asking ChatGPT's "Work" to create a presentation inside a Space.
Who can use it
Slides is rolling out gradually, on the web and in the desktop app, to eligible users on the Pro, Business and Enterprise plans who have access to Spaces. These three plans are the only ones listed, and the Free and Plus plans are not included. There is no mention of any additional charge. Availability in Japan is not specified, but there is also no mention of any regional restrictions.
GPT-6 Pro update
On the same day, October 16, OpenAI also announced an update to GPT-6 Pro, the top-tier model available in chats on the Pro plan. The main changes are as follows.
- It takes less time to return an answer
- It is better at using plugins and tools
- Multiple AI agents can split up tasks and work on them in parallel, and you can check their progress within the conversation
The update is for Pro plan users. In workspaces managed by companies and other organizations, availability depends on settings and rollout status. No benchmark figures were provided.
CoAI's take
Slides extends ChatGPT from "an AI that gives answers" into "a place to create and finish documents." ChatGPT's Work could already produce presentation files, but editing and collaboration had to be done after moving to PowerPoint or similar software. Being able to handle everything from creation to co-editing and presenting within ChatGPT could save a lot of effort. In AI for building presentations, competition looks set to intensify with specialized services such as Gamma, as well as Microsoft's Copilot and Google's Gemini.
On the other hand, it is currently available only to some users on Pro, Business and Enterprise, and most individual users cannot use it yet. When handling internal company documents, it is best to check sharing settings first, such as who can see the files placed in a Space.
