On November 2, 2026, Chinese AI company DeepSeek introduced the "Creator Mode" feature of its AI agent app DeepSeek Harness, together with a demo video. Just describe the feature you want in words, and the AI builds a Harness plugin (add-on feature), installs it, and checks that it works. As demos, DeepSeek has published a design workspace, a sandbox-style game, a tool that shows how AI models work in 3D, and more. According to the GitHub release history, Creator Mode was already included in builds by late September at the latest and has continued to be improved since. This announcement showed how to use it, with demos and example prompts.
What is DeepSeek Harness?
DeepSeek Harness is an open-source AI agent app developed by DeepSeek. It can be used for everyday tasks, coding, research, automating work in the background, and more.
- Architecture: almost everything, from tools and skills to parts of the interface, can be added or swapped as plugins
- Supported environments: desktop apps for Apple silicon Macs and 64-bit Windows, plus a locally run web interface
- License: MIT License, with the code published on GitHub
- Status: a developer preview, and DeepSeek says breaking changes will continue
With "DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash-1017," the updated model released on October 17, DeepSeek also said it had been optimized for Harness and recommended using Harness 0.2.1-rc.1 or later.
What Creator Mode can do
In Creator Mode, you ask for the plugin you want in plain language, and the AI studies Harness's development framework, writes the plugin code, and goes as far as installing it and checking that it works. In a demo published by DeepSeek, a Pomodoro timer (a timer for tracking work sessions) plugin was built from a short request in about 5.5 minutes, then installed and tested.
DeepSeek has published the 7 prompts used in the demos in Chinese and English. They include a tool for reading papers, a poster design tool, and a dashboard showing conversation statistics. Paste a prompt into Harness and select Creator Mode to build a similar plugin. However, DeepSeek notes that some demos were refined over several rounds of back-and-forth, and a single request will not necessarily produce the same result as the video.
Research into more autonomous agents
DeepSeek's Harness team also published a technical article on October 31 about designing agents that work more autonomously. According to 21st Century Business Herald, it describes a form called "Super-agent" that can handle multiple tasks and team collaboration; internally it reportedly runs continuously, taking part in reproducing and fixing issues, responding to code reviews, and improving Harness itself.
Safety notes
In its explanation of Harness safety, DeepSeek urges caution as follows.
- It is experimental software for developers and has not undergone a security audit
- It can run AI-generated code and commands, which could lead to file damage or leaks of data and credentials
- Approval prompts and permission controls can reduce risk but do not fully prevent harm
DeepSeek therefore recommends using it with the minimum necessary permissions, running it in an isolated environment such as a disposable virtual machine or container, backing up your files, and reviewing plugins and the commands to be run beforehand.
CoAI's take
The appeal of Creator Mode is that you can build out your own tools on the spot while talking with the AI. Claude Code, Codex and others can also be extended with plugins, but Harness stands out with its "everything is a plugin" design, in which not only tools and skills but also the interface can be extended with plugins. Releasing not only models but also the app that uses them as open source is also very much in DeepSeek's style.
That said, plugins are programs that run as-is. As DeepSeek itself states plainly, it has not undergone a security audit, so avoid jumping straight into using it on a work computer or in an environment with important data. It is safer to try it first in an isolated environment and check the contents of AI-made plugins before using them.
