On October 12, 2026 (U.S. time), SpaceXAI (formerly xAI) announced The X Subscription, a subscription plan that combines the conversational AI Grok, the AI agent Grok Bot, the AI coding tool Cursor and X's paid features X Premium into one. New users can sign up from the day of the announcement, and the company said it will make it available worldwide over the next few days.

About the operating company's name

xAI, which has developed Grok, was acquired by SpaceX in February 2026, and the company was subsequently renamed SpaceXAI. Furthermore, according to Reuters, Elon Musk said on October 4 that he would rename SpaceXAI to SpaceXSI (short for SpaceX Super Intelligence). This is in line with President Trump's policy calling for the term "super intelligence (SI)" to be used instead of artificial intelligence (AI).

On the announcement page, the site name is SpaceXSI while the operator listed at the bottom of the page is SpaceXAI LLC, so the renaming is still in transition. In this article, we refer to the company as SpaceXAI. Note that Cursor was acquired by SpaceX in 2026, and according to The New Stack, the acquisition was completed in mid-August.

Plans and pricing

According to the official pricing page, there are five individual plans (all monthly prices in U.S. dollars, excluding tax).

  • Free: You can use Grok up to a certain amount each day, and try Cursor's coding agent on a limited basis. X has its standard features.
  • Plus ($8 per month): Includes Grok chat, voice, image and video generation (Imagine), Grok Build and the Grok API, with more AI usage across Grok and Cursor, plus X's verification checkmark, creator features and fewer ads in the timeline.
  • Premium ($30 per month): Four times the usage allowance of Plus. Adds Grok Bot, the latest Grok models, Cursor's cloud agents and code review features, and an ad-free X experience (on most screens), among others.
  • Super ($100 per month): 15 times the usage allowance of Plus. Priority access to models during peak times.
  • Ultra ($200 per month): 50 times the usage allowance of Plus.

SpaceXAI explains that Premium combines "what previously cost a total of $90 per month when subscribing to SuperGrok, Cursor Pro and X Premium+ separately." For teams, Premium, Super and Ultra are offered at the same per-person price as for individuals, starting at $30 per person per month. Yen pricing for Japan and any special terms for Japan have not been announced.

Shared usage allowance between Grok and Cursor

A key feature of the paid plans is that the amount of Grok model usage becomes a "shared allowance." Whether you use Grok models in the Grok app, the Grok tab in X or Cursor, the usage is deducted from the same allowance. According to the pricing page, the allowance resets weekly, and if you use it up, you can either buy more (top-up) or wait for it to reset.

SpaceXAI says that on every plan, the amount you can use for coding with Grok models is at least twice that of the equivalent legacy Cursor plan. On the other hand, The New Stack points out that people who use the Grok app or Grok Bot heavily will have that much less available for coding.

Using other companies' models in Cursor

The biggest change for Cursor users is how other companies' models, such as Claude, GPT and Gemini, are handled. Under the new plans, other companies' models are available on Premium and above, but their usage is not included in the monthly fee and is paid separately at each company's API list price. Payment is made with prepaid credits, and you can also set a spending limit.

According to The New Stack, the legacy Cursor plans included usage of other companies' models. The $20-per-month Pro reportedly included $20 worth, the $60-per-month Pro+ $70 worth and the $200-per-month Ultra $400 worth of usage at API-equivalent prices. Matt Palmer, who handles developer-related work at SpaceXAI, said in a post on X: "If most of your usage is on third-party models, the new plans may cost you more. Please check your usage before switching."

What happens to existing Cursor subscribers

Existing SuperGrok, Cursor and X Premium subscribers can continue their current plans at the same price with the same contents. They can also switch to a new plan, in which case the remaining period of the old plan is refunded on a prorated basis. The option to switch will appear in account billing settings, starting with accounts where it has become available. The company says there are limited-time perks for switching.

However, it is unclear how long the legacy plans will continue. According to The New Stack, a SpaceXAI support representative replied on Cursor's community forum that "users who do not migrate will also be migrated in the future with advance notice." On the other hand, the same representative also explained that the timing for moving existing users has not been decided and that users will be notified in advance if anything changes.

In addition, cloud agents, which were included in the legacy Cursor Pro, and Origin, the code hosting service launched in August, require Premium ($30 per month) or above under the new plans. Switching from Pro and continuing to use the same features works out to $10 more per month.

CoAI's take

The X Subscription is an attempt to bring chat, agents, coding and social media together into a single subscription, centered on Grok. For people who mainly use Grok, it may offer more usage at a lower effective price. On the other hand, for people who have mainly used Claude or GPT in Cursor, it is a change that could increase costs. The New Stack also reported that OpenAI indicated in August that it would stop offering its own models directly in Cursor, with November 12 as the planned date, so the landscape of models available in Cursor is shifting. Existing Cursor subscribers do not need to rush to switch. It is best to first check which models you use and how much on Cursor's usage screen before deciding.
