Kling AI (Chinese name: 可灵AI) is an AI video and image generation service from China's Kuaishou group. This article walks through its features, pricing, commercial-use terms, and where it does and doesn't fit, based on the official pages (terms and the pricing page) we checked on October 4, 2026 (UTC).
Introduction: the international and China-mainland terms
Kling AI's official terms come in two versions:
- International version: the English terms published on kling.ai. The contracting party is Kling AI Pte. Ltd. of Singapore, and the governing law is Singapore law. Disputes are to be resolved by arbitration in English at the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) (Terms of Service, updated April 21, 2026)
- China-mainland version: the Chinese terms for 可灵AI, the service for mainland China, published at klingai.com/docs. The contracting party is 北京快手科技有限公司 (Beijing Kuaishou Technology Co., Ltd.), and the governing law is the law of the People's Republic of China (用户服务协议 (Terms of Service), published December 5, 2025)
When we checked, the klingai.com homepage redirected to kling.ai, the app URL (app.klingai.com) redirected to the kling.ai app screen, and the international app's pricing page URL (app.klingai.com/global/membership/membership-plan) redirected to the kling.ai pricing page. The pricing page is also on the international site and was shown in English with prices in US dollars. This article is based on the international terms and pricing page. The China-mainland terms apply to the service for mainland China, and we do not treat them as the terms for use from Japan.
That said, while the international Terms of Service include additional clauses for certain countries and regions such as Brazil and India, there are no clauses for Japan, and we found no page stating which terms apply to accounts registered from Japan. Before using the service, check the terms and prices shown in your own account.
What you can do with Kling AI
The international Terms of Service describe the service as one for creating, editing, and sharing content with generative AI. You provide input such as text, images, video, or audio, and the content generated in response is called "Output" (Terms of Service).
The main features presented on the official homepage are as follows (Kling AI official site):
- Video generation from text or images (Text to Video, Image to Video) and AI video editing
- Image generation from text or images and AI photo editing
- Motion Control and AI avatars
- "Canvas," where you create scripts, images, and videos while chatting with an agent and edit them in a node-based view
- MCP/CLI for operating Kling from AI agents
Kling AI also supports collaboration in team spaces. The terms state that work created within a team, as a rule, belongs to the team owner (Terms of Service 5.4).
Models and generation length
The homepage presents "Kling 4.0" as well as "VIDEO 3.0" and "IMAGE 3.0," each with an Omni version. According to an official guide dated February 6, 2026, VIDEO 3.0 generates videos of 3 to 15 seconds at 1080p or 720p. Credit consumption is calculated per second; for example, 1080p with audio costs 12 credits per second (Kling VIDEO 3.0 Model User Guide).
An official blog post dated May 20, 2026 says that native 4K video generation became available in the Kling 3.0 video model series starting April 23 (official blog). The homepage also presents native 4K image generation with IMAGE 3.0. However, we could not confirm the credit cost of 4K generation or the specifications of Kling 4.0.
Pricing and how credits work
Types of paid services
According to the international Terms of Paid Service, there are three types of paid services (Terms of Paid Service):
- Membership services: the Standard, Pro, Premier, Ultra, Team, and Enterprise plans
- Purchase of credits (Credit)
- Standalone purchase of specific features
Two types of membership auto-renewal are listed: monthly and annual. According to the terms, the price of each plan and the number of credits granted are as shown on the purchase screen.
Prices shown on the pricing page
Below is what the international pricing page showed when we opened it while logged out on October 4, 2026 (UTC) (in English, in US dollars). The prices shown included discounts and may change. We did not verify how taxes are handled, differences by account region, or the final amount at checkout.
The free Basic plan was shown at $0, but the amount of free credits granted each month was not shown.
For monthly billing, a discounted first-month price was shown as a one-time first-purchase offer (labeled 30% off for Standard and Pro, and 29% off for Premier and Ultra), with the monthly price from the second month onward shown alongside it as the "then" price.
- Standard: $6.99 for the first month, then $8.8 per month, 660 credits per month
- Pro: $25.99 for the first month, then $32.56 per month, 3,000 credits per month
- Premier: $64.99 for the first month, then $80.96 per month, 8,000 credits per month
- Ultra: $127.99 for the first month, then $159.99 per month, 26,000 credits per month
Note that the monthly price from the second month onward was also shown with a "Monthly 12% Off" discount label, next to struck-through prices (Standard $10, Pro $37, Premier $92, Ultra $180).
Annual prices were shown as the total for one year (not a per-month amount). They carried a "Yearly 34% Off" discount label; the figures in parentheses are the struck-through prices shown alongside them.
- Standard: $79.2 per year ($120)
- Pro: $293.04 per year ($444)
- Premier: $728.64 per year ($1,104)
- Ultra: $1,429.99 per year ($2,160)
Annual billing was shown as auto-renewing and cancelable at any time. The Ultra annual plan also listed Kling 4.0 Flash as an early-access item.
Membership benefits
The main membership benefits listed in the international Terms of Paid Service are as follows (Terms of Paid Service 3.1.2):
- Monthly credit grants and faster generation
- Professional mode for video
- Watermark removal
- Video extension and image upscaling
- Early access to new features
- Commercial use of outputs (see below)
The paid-plan cards on the pricing page also listed brand watermark removal, commercial use, and 1080p to 4K video generation as benefits. For the detailed conditions of each benefit, check both the plan display and the terms.
Credit expiration and refunds
The main credit rules in the international Terms of Paid Service are as follows (Terms of Paid Service 4 and 6.2.4):
- Membership credits are granted monthly and expire one month after they are granted (31 days according to the pricing page FAQ)
- Credits purchased separately are valid for two years
- Credits with the shortest remaining validity are used first
- Credits cannot be refunded as cash or transferred between users, accounts, or spaces
- Membership services and credits are not refunded once activated
The pricing page FAQ also explains that members receive bonus credits on their first login each day, which expire at midnight (24:00 local time) that day (7-Day Trials and Passes are excluded), and that 7-Day Trial credits are valid for seven days.
The international terms also state that the payment service may charge fees, and that auto-renewal is canceled from the respective Stripe, App Store, or Google Play screen.
What you can use for free
The international Terms of Service say that the service includes free and paid offerings, with details following what is shown on the site (Terms of Service 7.1). According to the pricing page FAQ, non-members can receive free credits when they log in each month, valid for 31 days. However, the amount was not stated. The main restrictions for non-members are the watermark and commercial use, covered in the next section.
Watermarks, commercial use, and rights to outputs
Because these points directly determine whether you can use Kling AI for work, we summarize them based on the international terms.
- Watermark: unless they have written permission, non-members must include brand marks such as "Kling AI" on their outputs. If the mark is missing for objective reasons, they must prominently indicate, wherever the output is used, that it was generated by Kling AI. Watermark removal is a membership benefit (Terms of Service 4.5, Terms of Paid Service 7.2)
- Commercial use in principle: the Terms of Service do not allow outputs to be used, reproduced, distributed, or modified for commercial purposes without written permission (Terms of Service 4.6). Section 3.1(e) of the same terms also prohibits using the service for commercial purposes (including commercial advertising) without written consent
- Commercial use for members: as a membership benefit, the Terms of Paid Service state that members are not restricted from using, reproducing, distributing, modifying, or creating derivative works from outputs for commercial purposes. However, developing or offering products or services that compete with Kling AI is excluded. The Terms of Paid Service also state that they prevail if they conflict with the Terms of Service (Terms of Paid Service preamble, 3.1.2). Our reading is therefore that members can use outputs commercially within the scope of the benefit, while the restrictions in the Terms of Service still apply to non-members (editor's interpretation)
- Ownership: rights to content, including outputs, belong to the user or the rightful owner under applicable law, and the operator does not claim ownership (Terms of Service 4.4)
- Use by the operator: users grant the operator a free, non-exclusive license to store, publish, reproduce, make derivative use of, and distribute inputs and outputs for the duration and in the territories in which it does business. The terms also cover use for promotion and product improvement (including licensing to third parties) and the use of inputs to train Kling AI's models. If you do not want this future use, the terms say you can withdraw the permission by emailing support@kling.ai (Terms of Service 4.7)
- Confidential information: the international Terms of Service treat uploaded content as non-confidential and ask users not to upload confidential information (Terms of Service 3.6)
- AI-generated labels: the international Community Guidelines prohibit removing, altering, or hiding labels indicating that content is AI-generated without authorization (Community Guidelines)
Prohibited content
The international Community Guidelines prohibit content such as promotion of violence or crime, sexual content, violations of others' rights to reputation, privacy, likeness, and the like, content harmful to minors, intellectual property infringement, misinformation, and false information that interferes with elections. Violations can lead to measures such as generation limits, removal, or account suspension, and the guidelines state that fees already paid are not refunded (Community Guidelines).
For reference, the 社区公约 (Community Convention) for 可灵AI, the China-mainland service, explicitly prohibits generating other people's likenesses without permission and cloning a specific person's voice without permission, and also includes restrictions on political content based on Chinese law (社区公约). These are the China-mainland terms.
Japanese-language support
The display language of the interface, the language of instructions (prompts), and the language of generated audio need to be considered separately.
- Interface (UI): in the app screens we checked, the international version's menus were in English (Kling AI app (international version)). The China-mainland app (可灵AI) is in Chinese. We could not confirm whether a Japanese UI exists
- Prompts: we found no statement indicating official support for Japanese prompts
- Generated audio: the official VIDEO 3.0 guide lists Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish as supported languages for spoken dialogue
- Language of the terms: the international Terms of Service state that the English version prevails if it conflicts with a translated version (Terms of Service 15.11)
We have not tested generation quality when instructions are given in Japanese.
Good fits and poor fits
The following is our editorial assessment based on the terms and specifications we were able to confirm.
Cases where it is likely to be a good fit:
- You want to create short video clips from images or text and prototype mood videos for social media or presentations
- You want to create assets for advertising or content production after confirming the commercial-use conditions for members
- You want to work as a team while sharing assets and outputs
Cases where it may not be a good fit:
- You want to use it for work or commercial purposes without a watermark while remaining a non-member
- Projects involving confidential materials or unreleased product information (under the terms, inputs are not treated as confidential, and the operator may use them, including for model training)
- Projects involving the faces or voices of real people where consent or rights clearance has not been obtained
- You want to sign up for annual billing without checking the no-refund conditions or the terms that apply to you
Example use (illustrative, not tested)
The following is an example to explain how the service might be used; we have not actually generated or tested it.
Consider a small shop creating a few-second social media video from a photo of a new product.
- Prepare a product photo the shop took itself, with no rights issues
- Use the image as input and describe the motion in text, such as the camera slowly moving in (check in advance which languages you can use for instructions)
- Generate several versions, compare them, and keep only the usable ones (plan your budget on the assumption that each generation consumes credits)
- Before publishing, recheck in the terms how watermarks and AI-generated labels are handled, and the commercial-use conditions for membership plans
How to choose among video generation tools
If you are considering Hailuo AI or Runway as alternatives, we recommend looking beyond the spec numbers and checking each company's official information on the following points:
- Which plans allow commercial use under the terms that apply in your region
- Whether free or lower-tier plans add a watermark
- Whether the operator can use your input materials and outputs, and how to withdraw that permission
- The first-month discount and the monthly price from the second month onward, the annual total, credit expiration, refund eligibility, and how to cancel auto-renewal
- Support for a Japanese UI and Japanese prompts
- Restrictions on the likenesses and voices of real people, and how well they suit your projects

Frequently asked questions
Can I use Kling AI for free?
The pricing page shows the free Basic plan at $0, and the FAQ explains that non-members can also receive free credits when they log in each month. However, the amount of free credits was not stated. Non-members face restrictions on watermarks and commercial use, so if you plan to use it for work, check the membership conditions.
How much do the paid plans cost?
On the pricing page as of October 4, 2026, Standard monthly billing, for example, was shown at $6.99 for the first month (a one-time first-purchase offer), then $8.8 per month, while annual billing was shown at $79.2 for one year. The first-month price is not the regular monthly price, and all of these are discounted prices that may change. Before purchasing, check the pricing page and the checkout screen, including taxes and regional differences.
Can I use the videos I generate commercially?
The international Terms of Service do not allow commercial use without written permission, but the Terms of Paid Service allow members to use outputs commercially, except for developing or offering competing products or services. The pricing page also listed commercial use as a paid-plan benefit. Check the terms that apply to your account before using the service.
Can I get a refund for credits I purchased?
Under the international Terms of Paid Service, membership services and credits are not refundable once activated, and they cannot be exchanged for cash.
Is there an API?
The official site presents an API platform. However, we have not checked API pricing or specifications. The API is a separate product from the membership plans covered in this article, so the prices on the pricing page do not apply to the API.
